Written by Shamsi Saadati Paris, France  – On Saturday, May 17, 2025, an influential international conference convened in Paris, uniting parliamentarians and prominent political figures from a wide array of countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Malta, Switzerland, Romania, Portugal, and the Netherlands. The central theme of the gathering was the urgent need for a new, decisive international policy towards Iran, with a strong emphasis on supporting democratic change and recognizing the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as a viable alternative to the current regime. The event served as a significant platform for global lawmakers to voice their concerns over the deteriorating human rights situation in Iran, the regime’s escalating domestic repression, its destabilizing regional activities, and its persistent pursuit of a nuclear program. A recurring call throughout the conference was for Western governments to adopt a firmer stance, including the ...

Iranian Propaganda Operates Freely in the West, With Sources Both Overt and Subtle

Image
By Shahriar kia On Tuesday, a so-called political scientist by the name of Kaveh Lotfolah Afrasiabi made his first appearance before a  US federal court  after being outed as a long-time agent of the Iranian regime. Since 2007, Afrasiabi had been quietly receiving payment from Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United States, in blatant violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act. His charging documents indicate that he ultimately received at least 265,000 dollars in exchange for activities that conveyed the Iranian regime’s talking points to media outlets, members of Congress, and the general public. His story is not unique, and many serious critics of the regime have already seized upon it as a case study in the overall phenomenon of covert Iranian influence. In so doing, they have pointed out that while Afrasiabi, a 35-year resident of the United States, may not have been an obvious subject for scrutiny by law enforcement, the same cannot be said of other ...

Parroting Iran Regime’s Propaganda Against the MEK

Image
By Dr. Ali Safavi “ Trump’s Former Top Intel Adviser Has Become a Key Source of Disinformation ,” ( Mother Jones , November 2, 2020), amounts to nothing more than regurgitating the Iran regime’s often-debunked allegations against its main opposition. Accusing the strongest and most organized democratic opposition of Iran, the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), of being a “cult” is absurd and a signature move of the religious dictatorship ruling Iran.  For years , the regime has spread the most despicable disinformation against the MEK in order to discredit it. Yet regime officials constantly express their deep-seated fears about the increasing number of youths joining the MEK. As recently as June of this year, the regime’s Foreign Ministry  called  the MEK a “terror cult,” while at the same time the mullahs  announced  the arrest of two elite university students for supporting the organization. In addition to domestic suppression, demonizing the MEK and conducting ...

By Mohammad Sadat Khansari The United States Department of Justice banned 27 additional domain names the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) unlawfully used to spread the regime’s disinformation and push the mullahs’ talking points. The Department of Justice, in a  statement  on November 4, announced that “all 27 domains were being used in violation of U.S. sanctions targeting both the Government of Iran and the  IRGC . Four of the domains purported to be genuine news outlets but were actually controlled by the IRGC and targeted audiences in the United States, to covertly influence United States policy and public opinion, in violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). The remainder targeted audiences in other parts of the world. This seizure warrant follows an earlier seizure of 92 domains used by the IRGC for similar purposes.” “Within the last month we have announced seizures of Iran’s weapons, fuel, and covert influence infrastructure,...
