Iran Faces a Growing Internal Crisis

Image
By Chuck Wald We have passed the six-month mark of the war between the United States and the Iranian regime. Whatever Tehran’s rhetoric may suggest, its theocratic dictatorship is weaker today than at any point since its establishment in the aftermath of the 1979 Revolution. As this situation continues to unfold, it is increasingly important for Western governments and the broader international community to consider the policies needed to help bring about change driven not by foreign intervention, but by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.  The country’s economy, already suffering from years of decline before the war, is now exhibiting some of its worst indicators in decades, including inflation exceeding 100 percent on key consumer goods. Predictably, these pressures have intensified factional infighting within the regime. The turmoil has been compounded by the loss of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war, February 28.  Khamenei has be...

Countering Iran’s Threat, Strategies for Regional Stability

Image
Written by Mahmoud Hakamian Two-minute read On Sunday morning, April 14, the Iranian regime launched an unprecedented attack against Israel, escalating tensions in the Middle East. Despite military experts’ assessments that the attack failed, it underscores  Iran’s role as a focal point  of regional conflict. The October 7th attack sent shockwaves globally. Despite ample evidence implicating the Iranian regime, Western governments dismissed Tehran’s involvement, adhering to a flawed appeasement policy toward the primary state sponsor of terrorism. They disregarded explicit statements from Revolutionary Guards  (IRGC) commanders boasting  about their direct role in the attack. For decades, the Iranian Resistance has urged the international community to adopt a resolute stance against the Iranian regime’s aggression and terrorism. Despite persistent calls, the failed appeasement policy of the West allowed Tehran to escalate its belligerent activities, including ...

Alejo Vidal Quadras, a champion of freedom in Iran

Image
By Matin Karim The failed assassination attempt against Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras, a prominent Spanish politician and a great supporter of the Iranian people and their resistance movement, on Friday, November 9, in the center of Madrid, shocked and bewildered everyone and quickly gained global attention. Following this assassination attempt, fingers of blame pointed towards the mullah’s regime ruling Iran, as their hysterical enmity toward him is well-known. In their reports, news outlets mentioned that he had been in contact with and supported the Iranian resistance over the decades. Following the terrorist attack, the Associated Press reported that a police source close to the investigation confirmed that Vidal-Quadras himself had raised that suspicion that Iran’s regime was involved and that “investigators were looking into it as one of several possible motives.” The AP added, “As part of his political career, Vidal-Quadras has been aligned for decades with the Iranian oppositio...

Beware Russia and Iran – partners in war crimes

Image
By Struan Stevenson Stephen King, the famous American author, wrote: “Killing children for God, or ideology, or both – no hell could be hot enough for those who’d do such things”. It could be a fitting epitaph for Vladimir Putin and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, two partners in crime and mass murder. As Russia and Iran gradually consolidate their relationship, the foundation stones for this pariah alliance are clear to see. The dominant factor is a mutual hatred of the West and in particular America. Both countries have been subjected to tough international sanctions. Both have engaged in real or perceived nuclear threats against the West. Both regard the Middle East as an area of key geopolitical importance. Iran has sought for years to become the main player in Middle East Shi’ite politics, funding Bashar al-Assad’s brutal civil war in Syria, backing the Houthi rebels in Yemen, controlling the Shi’ia militias in Iraq, financing the terrorist Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. Ru...

The Pendulum Shifts: Iranian Opposition Prevails over Western Concessions to Tehran

Image
By Dr. Majid Rafizadeh When it comes to Iran, discerning observers are usually fixated on the contentious nuclear issue, as well as Tehran’s unabated sponsorship of terrorism. However, recently, a conspicuous spotlight was cast on the intricate internal dynamics, capturing the attention of the global community. Following engagements with the regime, both European and American governments made a consequential decision to assuage the regime’s sensibilities by ascending to one of its paramount demands: imposing constraints on the activities of the principal opposition. The prompt failure of these efforts has shed light on fundamental realities, deserving of profound contemplation by Western policymakers. Amidst a recent flurry of reports surrounding negotiations between Washington and Tehran, a disconcerting pattern of concessions has emerged, all of which pertain to the National Council of Resistance of Iran ( NCRI ) and its main constituent, the Mujahedin-e Khalq ( MEK ). In May, ...

Iran – UK must label Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as terror group, says thinktank

Image
Report from rightwing thinktank calls for tougher sanctions on Iran as October expiry of UN sanctions looms Patrick Wintour Diplomatic editor The October expiry of UN sanctions limiting Iran’s missile programme must become a hard deadline for the UK to adopt a  tougher policy  that includes proscription of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), a rightwing thinktank has warned. The report from the Henry Jackson Society (HJS) is the second from a right-of-centre thinktank in two days demanding tougher action on  Iran , and suggests that the UK ministers’ preferred strategy of introducing an Iran-specific sanctions regime that could lead to sanctions for activities outside Iran has fallen flat with Tory hawks. The UK government has examined the possibility of proscribing the IRGC for months and rejected the option, fearing diplomatic fallout with Tehran. The Foreign Office decision announced a fortnight ago gave political space for Labour’s shadow home secret...

The West Must Abandon Appeasement Policy On Iran

Image
By Struan Stevenson At last week’s 6 th  July meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC), chaired by the UK, the growing threat posed by Iran and the absurdity of Western appeasement policy to resurrect the defunct Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal, took centre stage. The Security Council was told that under the terms of the UNSC Resolution 2231, aimed at curtailing the regime’s nuclear ambitions, Iran has been in violation of its commitments for more than four years and its nuclear programme has now escalated to alarming levels.  The JCPOA was signed by President Obama in 2015 and abandoned by President Trump in 2018 when he unilaterally withdrew the US from the scheme, declaring it the worst deal in American history. Whatever you may think about President Trump, he was absolutely right on this issue. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stockpiles of Iran’s enriched uranium now stand at 21 times the amounts permitted under t...

UK leads the way in ending appeasement of Iran

Image
By Struan Stevenson ON 13th July, in a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, a French member, Nathalie Loiseau MEP, launched a vicious tirade against the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin of Iran/ Mojahedin-e Khalq (PMOI/MEK), the main democratic opposition to the mullahs’ fascist theocratic regime. Her onslaught contained all of the usual propaganda that is regularly trotted out by the mullahs. It was the latest prime example of EU appeasement policy towards the Iranian regime. It seems clear that Loiseau, who is a member of Macron’s party and a former French cabinet minister, was instructed to do this by the Élysée Palace, where President Macron is nursing his anger over his defeat in the French courts at the beginning of the month, when his attempt to ban a mass opposition rally by the NCRI was thwarted. Macron will be desperate to point to some success in his appeasement policy, to try to pacify the Iranian presi...

Exclusive: Iranian Opposition Exposes Petrochemical Company Financing Regime’s Terrorism and Oppression

Image
Written by Shamsi Saadati On May 31, 2023, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) exposed classified documents obtained by the social network of the main opposition  Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK)  inside Iran and the network of this organization inside the various organs of the Iranian regime, revealing information about Petrochemical Commercial Company International (PCCI), one of the regime’s important organs used in the field of oil and petrochemicals to circumvent sanctions.   These documents show that the facilities of this organization, which is under the control of the regime’s Armed Forces, specifically the IRGC, are clearly used to finance the regime’s belligerence and terrorism abroad and repression at home.  Petrochemical Commercial Company International (PCCI)   The Petrochemical Commercial Co. International (PCCI), established in 2000, bypasses the oil and petrochemical sanctions in astronomical dimensi...
