The leadership of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) inside the country announced that several members of the organization were arrested on the evening of Friday, October 16, 2026, during clashes with security personnel from the judiciary and police patrols, while an attack was underway targeting the central headquarters of the Iranian regime’s judiciary in Tehran. According to the statement, the clashes took place at around 9 p.m. local time on Abdollahzadeh Street, off Keshavarz Boulevard, near the judiciary’s central headquarters. Resistance Units Mobilized Following Reports That Mohseni Ejei Was Heading to the Headquarters The PMOI leadership inside Iran explained that, several hours before the operation, information had been received indicating that Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei, head of the Iranian regime’s judiciary, was on his way to Keshavarz Boulevard to proceed to the central headquarters. The statement added that, immediately upon receiving this info...

Iran Faces a Growing Internal Crisis

Image
By Chuck Wald We have passed the six-month mark of the war between the United States and the Iranian regime. Whatever Tehran’s rhetoric may suggest, its theocratic dictatorship is weaker today than at any point since its establishment in the aftermath of the 1979 Revolution. As this situation continues to unfold, it is increasingly important for Western governments and the broader international community to consider the policies needed to help bring about change driven not by foreign intervention, but by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.  The country’s economy, already suffering from years of decline before the war, is now exhibiting some of its worst indicators in decades, including inflation exceeding 100 percent on key consumer goods. Predictably, these pressures have intensified factional infighting within the regime. The turmoil has been compounded by the loss of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war, February 28.  Khamenei has be...

Why Iran’s Future Matters for Armenia and the South Caucasus

Image
Shahrokh Tavakoli  Iran’s domestic crisis is no longer an issue confined within its borders. For Armenia and the wider South Caucasus, the question is not only what happens inside Iran, but what kind of country Iran may become and what that change could mean for its neighbors. Armenia’s geographic and economic links with Iran make this question particularly important. Iran is an important southern neighbor, a trading partner and an overland route connecting Armenia to the wider region. Prolonged political instability in Iran could therefore affect transportation, trade and economic security beyond Iran itself. The deeper problem, however, is domestic. Inflation, declining purchasing power, unemployment and widespread social dissatisfaction have developed alongside intensified arrests, severe sentences and executions. Instead of addressing the underlying causes of public discontent through structural reform, the authorities have increasingly relied on security measures and po...

Iran’s future cannot be made in Washington

U.S. should empower the Iranian people, denying the regime regrouping time By Carla Sands – Wednesday, August 26, 2026 OPINION: For more than four decades, the regime in Tehran has fueled terrorism, destabilized the Middle East through proxy militias, pursued nuclear weapons capability and brutally oppressed its own people. Successive American administrations tried diplomacy, sanctions and accommodation. None has fundamentally altered Tehran’s behavior. By confronting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and refusing to accept the regime’s long-held assumption that it can threaten American interests without consequence, President Trump has changed the strategic landscape. Still, military action alone does not guarantee lasting political victory. The recent weakening of the regime has created a historic strategic opportunity. Continuing the maximum pressure campaign, the United States should embrace a political strategy that empowers the Iranian people, denying the regime tim...

Why Is Mohammad Khatami Warning Against Non-Compliance With the Iran-US Memorandum

Image
By Reza Hoseani  understanding signed between Masoud Pezeshkian and the US administration — and symbolically kissed the hand of its signatory — go far beyond a diplomatic position. They are a clear sign of a deepening strategic rift at the very top of the Islamic Republic’s power structure. Khatami warns that losing this opportunity will confront the regime with “strange problems.” The central question is this: Why is the so-called reformist faction clinging so desperately to this memorandum, while the Supreme Leader’s inner circle and his successor-in-waiting, Mojtaba Khamenei, are pushing back with the dismissive phrase “in principle”? 1. The Memorandum: A Concession or a Poisoned Chalice? In his remarks, Khatami presents an exaggerated picture of the memorandum, claiming: “Go and read this memorandum. It has no precedent. Since World War II, no memorandum, no document signed by a US president, has granted so many concessions to the opposing side… Nine times, the United St...

By Reza Hoseani Introduction: Iran’s Inflation Is No Longer a Cycle—It’s a Free Fall For over four decades, inflation in Iran has not been a temporary problem, but a structural crisis under the mullahs’ rule. What is unfolding today has gone beyond ordinary inflation and entered a stage of economic free fall. According to the regime’s own Statistical Center, point-to-point inflation reached 31.8% in January 2025, but more recent reports from the Central Bank in July 2026 show annual inflation at 61.4% and point-to-point inflation at around 84%. This means a worker’s monthly wage does not even cover one week of living expenses. 1. Why Are Prices Spiraling Out of Control? The root cause is not sanctions, but three deliberate policies: a) Plundering the budget for repression and nuclear projects: A major driver of the food price surge is the currency crisis, where a huge portion of the budget, instead of importing essential goods, is spent on funding repressive apparatuses, weapons...

Iran: Mullahs' Parliament Anti-Infiltration Plan; Admission of Security Failure and the Deadlock of Overthrow

Image
By Reza Hoseani Introduction: From the Slogan of Infiltration to the Law of Infiltration The general principles of the bill “Confronting the Infiltration of Foreign Intelligence Services and Governments” were approved with 183 votes on August 15, 2026 in the mullahs’ parliament. Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesman for the National Security Commission, said: “We have laws on espionage, but in the field of infiltration, given its importance and the Leader’s emphasis, there was a legal vacuum.” Yet the same parliament admits this bill was being drafted long before the 12-day war. Why is a regime that called itself the most powerful intelligence system in the region now rushing to legislate to plug its security holes? The answer is not in the text of the law, but in the blows inflicted on the regime in the past year. 1. Why Now? A Security Failure That Cannot Be Explained by Mobiles and Laptops The official narrative is that infiltration means leaked mobiles and computers. But reality says ...
