Written by Shamsi Saadati Paris, France – On Saturday, May 17, 2025, an influential international conference convened in Paris, uniting parliamentarians and prominent political figures from a wide array of countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Malta, Switzerland, Romania, Portugal, and the Netherlands. The central theme of the gathering was the urgent need for a new, decisive international policy towards Iran, with a strong emphasis on supporting democratic change and recognizing the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as a viable alternative to the current regime. The event served as a significant platform for global lawmakers to voice their concerns over the deteriorating human rights situation in Iran, the regime’s escalating domestic repression, its destabilizing regional activities, and its persistent pursuit of a nuclear program. The cellmate of a young political prisoner who was killed last week in Tehran’s Fashafuyeh Prison wrote in a letter from prison that the internet activist was murdered on orders of prison officials. Twenty-one-year-old Alireza Shir Mohammad Ali was stabbed to death by two prisoners on June 10.
The political prisoner was sentenced to eight years of prison on charges of “blasphemy”, “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic”, “insulting the leader” and “spreading propaganda” against the regime.
Shir Mohammad Ali was arrested on July 15, 2018 in connection to his internet activities. According to his lawyer, he was scheduled to appear in court to appeal his sentence on July 9. According to his mother, the judge had set an 80 million toman bail for her son’s release. An amount that she could not afford.
Alireza Shir Mohammad Ali had gone on a hunger strike along with another political prisoner, Barzan Mohammadi, who was detained during the August 2017 protests in Tehran. They were protesting their “lack of safety” at Fashafuyeh Prison.
In a letter in March, Alireza wrote in regard to his hunger strike that “living in the filth of the Greater Tehran Prison is beneath us”.
Reports indicate that Alireza’s mother, Mahnaz Sarabi, went to the prosecutor’s office today to inquire about her son’s murder case.
Mrs. Sarabi told the judge that her complaint was not limited to the two individuals charged with murder but was also against prison authorities. She also asked for an investigation into why her son was killed.
She believes that prison officials were behind her son’s murder.
A week after the murder, Shir Mohammad Ali’s cellmate, Barzan Mohammadi, wrote a letter from prison uncovering the truth about the death of the jailed internet activist.

“Mohammad Reza Khalilzadeh, the murderer and his partner in murder Hamidreza Shojaei Zavareh, have been on death row for several years on various charges including two murders, one in Rajaie Shahr Prison and one outside prison, and kidnappings,” Mohammadi wrote.
In his letter, the political prisoner detailed how the two criminals were allowed into their cell and how they constantly threatened them with murder.
“They said that we have to murder one of you so that we could be transferred back to Rajaie Shahr Prison,” he wrote.
Mohammadi said that prison officials were completely aware of their threats but did nothing to prevent the murder.
“I am very surprised that these two chose Alireza to murder. This was unexpected as Alireza helped them in the past”, he concluded.

At the first step, you should be the center of this cruelty and the godfather of crime and murder, terrorism and fundamentalism that nobody is part of Iran's terrorist government. The fact is that the killing and execution of political and conscientious prisoners in public or in prisons is secretly in its astronomical dimensions on the coin of killing innocent people abroad by this regime. The issuance of terrorism and the support of fundamentalist and terrorist groups in this regime is institutionalized and is part of the constitution. The crimes committed by perpetrators and groups affiliated with this corrupt and expansionist state in Syria and Lebanon and Iraq ...

The Strategic Defeat in Syria and Lebanon Is a Clear Reflection of the Clerical Regime’s Weakness and Instability The Next Dictatorship to Be Overthrown is the Mullahs’ Regime We are happy that PMOI members at Ashraf 3 are joining us today in this conference. We welcome them. Mr. Secretary, Welcome to the Home of the Iranian Resistance. We are delighted to host you in the early days of the New Year. I hope this year will be a successful year for the people of the United States and a year of freedom, peace and prosperity for our people and the entire Middle East. The Regime’s Setbacks in 2024 2024 was a year full of serious defeats for the regime. We saw widespread boycotts of two sham elections, increased resistance in prisons, more young people joining Resistance Units, and the expansion of their activities. The regime also confronted a broken economy, 40% inflation, widespread poverty and massive financial corruption, especially among officials and IRGC commanders and growing d...
