When Students Rise, Tyrants Tremble

By Struan Stevenson Throughout modern history, student uprisings have served as one of the clearest indicators that a regime has entered its final and most dangerous phase. Young people possess a unique capacity to sense political decay long before many others. They see through propaganda, reject hollow promises, and refuse to accept a future stolen by corruption, repression, and incompetence. When students pour onto the streets in large numbers, authoritarian rulers have every reason to fear the consequences. The latest wave of protests sweeping Tehran, Mashhad, and Hamedan should therefore ring alarm bells throughout Iran’s ruling establishment. Thousands of students have risen in defiance of discriminatory educational policies, arbitrary changes to university entrance regulations, and mounting pressures imposed by a regime increasingly detached from the realities facing ordinary citizens. MEK units call for Iran's election boycott

The internal network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) organized a vast campaign across Iran calling for the boycott of the regime’s election sham.

The Iranian regime approaches the 2021 Presidential Election in June. For 42 years, Iranian authorities deceived society by putting up a show of “reformists versus hardliners.” However, in recent years, Iranian citizens have clearly announced that they see no distinction between these supposedly rivaling factions. In various anti-regime rallies and protests people frequently chant “Reformists, hardliners, the game is over.”

The country is facing a disastrous economic crisis, high inflation, skyrocketing prices, and widespread poverty. Public anger towards the regime and its officials is growing every day. Moreover, since 2018 Iran witnessed five nationwide uprisings which the biggest was the November 2019 uprising, which was suppressed in the bloodiest way. More than 1500 young protesters were gunned down in the street by the suppressive forces.

Therefore, in recent days, the MEK’s network inside Iran, known as the Resistance Units, has organized a widespread campaign across the country that called for an all-out boycott of the regime’s presidential election sham.

In Tehran and Isfahan, the members of the Resistance Units installed huge banners of Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) with the slogans, “The election boycott is a response to the killing of 1500 martyrs in November 2019” and “The Iranian people’s nationwide boycott is yet another response to the murderers of 1500 blood-drenched martyrs of November 2019.”
