When Students Rise, Tyrants Tremble

By Struan Stevenson Throughout modern history, student uprisings have served as one of the clearest indicators that a regime has entered its final and most dangerous phase. Young people possess a unique capacity to sense political decay long before many others. They see through propaganda, reject hollow promises, and refuse to accept a future stolen by corruption, repression, and incompetence. When students pour onto the streets in large numbers, authoritarian rulers have every reason to fear the consequences. The latest wave of protests sweeping Tehran, Mashhad, and Hamedan should therefore ring alarm bells throughout Iran’s ruling establishment. Thousands of students have risen in defiance of discriminatory educational policies, arbitrary changes to university entrance regulations, and mounting pressures imposed by a regime increasingly detached from the realities facing ordinary citizens. Their demands concern far more than examinations and academic records. These demonstrations r...

British lawmakers meet with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, visit Ashraf 3

 By Matin Karim

Two prominent lawmakers from the United Kingdom met with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), on February 23, 2023. In their meeting with Mrs. Rajavi, Hon. Bob Blackman, MP from the UK House of Commons, and Rt. Hon. David Jones MP, the former Secretary of State for Wales, former Brexit Minister of State, and President of the Parliamentary British Committee for Iran Freedom, expressed their support for the uprising of the Iranian people and their aspirations to live in a free and democratic republic.

Mr. Jones and Mr. Blackman acknowledged the extensive history of oppression suffered by the Iranian people under both the Shah and the mullahs, marked by the cries of “death to the oppressor, be it the Shah or the mullahs’ supreme leader” echoing throughout Iranian cities. They recognized that these cries represent a strong rejection of all forms of dictatorship by the Iranian people.

“It is absurd to think that the people of Iran, who longed for freedom above all else, would return to a past where they were oppressed and denied their fundamental freedoms,” they said.

During the meeting, Mrs. Rajavi expressed her gratitude to the representatives of the people of Britain for their consistent support of democracy and human rights in Iran. She highlighted that despite its oppressive measures and schemes, the clerical regime has not been able to stop the uprising. Neither has it been able to eradicate the Resistance Units and the courageous youth who are the driving force of the protests.

She emphasized that the Iranian people’s anger and frustration have reached a boiling point, fueled by poverty, state corruption, plunder, and systematic discrimination. Meanwhile, the vanguard force has gained even more experience, motivation, organization, and strength.

Mr. Jones and Mr. Blackman presented Mrs. Rajavi with a statement signed by 250 members of both Houses of the British Parliament from all political parties. The statement expressed support for the Iranian people’s nationwide uprising, the Iranian Resistance, and Mrs. Rajavi’s Ten-point Plan for the future of Iran.

“It is time to recognise the right of the Iranian people to defend themselves and overthrow this regime and to establish a democratic, secular republic,” the lawmakers said.

The signatories of the statement, which includes members of both Houses of the British Parliament, recognized the NCRI as the democratic alternative to the clerical regime and deserving of full support.

“The United Nations Security Council should hold to account those responsible for committing crimes against the Iranian people, especially the regime’s Supreme Leader Khamenei and the current president, Ebrahim Raisi, and bring them to justice,” the statement reads.

The statement also recognizes that “the Resistance Units and the organised Resistance by the PMOI/MEK play a serious role in organising and continuing these protests and resisting suppression.”

Mr. Jones and Mr. Blackman also visited Ashraf 3 in Albania, home to members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), where they addressed a gathering of MEK members and visited the museum of the Iranian Resistance.
