Countering Iran’s Threat, Strategies for Regional Stability

Image
Written by Mahmoud Hakamian Two-minute read On Sunday morning, April 14, the Iranian regime launched an unprecedented attack against Israel, escalating tensions in the Middle East. Despite military experts’ assessments that the attack failed, it underscores  Iran’s role as a focal point  of regional conflict. The October 7th attack sent shockwaves globally. Despite ample evidence implicating the Iranian regime, Western governments dismissed Tehran’s involvement, adhering to a flawed appeasement policy toward the primary state sponsor of terrorism. They disregarded explicit statements from Revolutionary Guards  (IRGC) commanders boasting  about their direct role in the attack. For decades, the Iranian Resistance has urged the international community to adopt a resolute stance against the Iranian regime’s aggression and terrorism. Despite persistent calls, the failed appeasement policy of the West allowed Tehran to escalate its belligerent activities, including financing, arming, train

Free Iran Gathering: We Should Support Iran People’s Desire for Regime Change

Image
By ncr-iran Staff The Free Iran Gathering, organised by the main Iranian opposition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), kicked off today in Paris, with a panel entitled “Iran: Prospect for Change”, where six distinguished politicians and media personalities came to the decision that supporting the Iranian people should be the policy of the international community. The panel, chaired by Ambassador Lincoln Bloomfield, kicked off at 11 am local time with a discussion about the fraudulent nuclear deal, which Donald Trump withdrew from in May, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s list of 12 demands for a new nuclear deal with Iran. Support the Iranian people During the course of the panel, there were many ways suggested to help the Iranian people achieve regime change in Iran, which is their true desire. Linda Chavez, former Director of the White House public liaison, and Ambassador Adam Ereli both said that the US should be able to tell ordinary Iranians from t

The Place of Art and Iranian Artist in Today’s Iran

Image
By Abdolrahman Mahabadi, political analyst and writer With the mullahs’ regime coming to power in 1979, Iran’s art breathed its last as most Iranian artists either had to leave the country or were isolated by the regime and died in obscurity. By the order of Khomeini, music, dance and any related job or business were banned as being religiously forbidden. Visual arts, drawing, poetry and literature were confined to the mullahs’ backward ideology, with the country’s real artists either being held in prison or living a lonely sorrowful life at home. Performing arts and cinema were also banalized under the mullahs’ regime, with regime’s so-called favorite artists taking place of real, popular ones. While the art is supposed to help societies flourish, in Iran under the rule of mullahs, however, it’s turned into an oppression tool that helps the dictatorship survive. Mohammad-Ali Fardin was a popular Iranian actor who was isolated ever since the mullahs took power, and eve

Iran protests may escalate due to deep-rooted economic problems

Image
By Dr. Majid Rafizadeh Large protests and demonstrations have erupted in Iran. For four consecutive days, many Iranians have taken to the streets to express their anger and frustration with the authorities.    The demonstrations originated with economic concerns, like so many of the recent protests the world has witnessed in Iran. This is also an expression of the people’s frustration with the clerical regime due to the increasing wealth disparities between the people and those in government.   The protests, which began with merchants, traders and shopkeepers in the Grand Bazaar in Tehran, have spread to other major cities and markets, such as in Tabriz in the north, the Aladdin and Charsou centers, as well as Qeshm Island. Many people have also marched on the country’s Parliament.    The detailed and nuanced factors behind these vast protests are multi-faceted. To begin with, one of the underlying impetuses is the dire economic situation, and particularly the

Iran: Sanctions Need to Be Hard-Hitting

Image
Iran Focus London, 23 Jun - Last month, US President announced that he would be pulling the United States out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). He also said that the sanctions that were lifted as a result of the nuclear deal will be reapplied and that fresh ones would be issued. We do not know the full details of the sanctions yet, but it is expected that we will hear soon, as the deadlines approach. Iran pretends to be rather unconcerned about the sanctions. Iran is used to sanctions and had lived with them for so long that it has been able to find work-arounds. Several Iranian officials have recently said that the sanctions will be little more than an inconvenience. The Trump administration is hopefully listening to this and bearing it in mind when finalising the details of the sanctions. It is the perfect chance for the administration to really take the time and issue some hard-hitting sanctions that will ma

Proposal for Iran to Join Global Convention Against Money Laundering Stymied by Its Leader

Image
Iran Focus London, 23 Jun - When considering major bills like the proposal to join the UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crimes (UNTOC), the legislative body will take into account Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s “full directives”, according to the speaker of Iran’s parliament, Ali Larijani. The Supreme Leader has voiced his disapproval of this bill. He  called the bill “unacceptable” June 20 , saying the UNTOC, a measure meant to fight money laundering and terrorism funding, had been “cooked up” by foreign powers, and that the parliament should shelve it. “It is not necessary to join conventions the depths of which we are unaware of,” he said. Instead, he proposed that parliament create its own laws to combat money laundering and terrorism funding. Placing Iran alongside North Korea, at the top of the list of countries with the highest economic and financial risks for nearly two decades,  The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) , a G7 initiative to combat money lau

MEK Respond to Slurs From Shah’s Son

Image
By Jubin Katiraie The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) have responded to a Bloomberg News Reza Pahlavi, the son of an Iranian dictator that was overthrown by the Iranian people, in which he told numerous lies about the MEK and displayed his hatred for democracy. Shahin Gobadi, the  spokesman for the MEK , wrote that the Iranian people’s continued fight for democracy has been pushed back by two dictatorships: the monarchy, to which Pahlavi belonged, and the current theocracy. There may be striking differences between the two, but both groups are united on a hostility towards democracy and a violent crackdown on those who advocated for it. The Shah’s rule began in 1953, when the US and the UK conspired to overthrow Iran’s only democratic government. For 25 years, he ruled Iran through terror and suppression until the people of Iran overthrew him in 1979 and he fled the country. Unfortunately, that revolution was hijacked by the mullahs and now, some 39 years

ANGELA MERKEL: EUROPE MUST COUNTER IRAN’S AGGRESSION IN MIDDLE EAST

Image
By INU Staff INU - German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called on her fellow European leaders to act "urgently" to counter Iran’s "aggressive" activities in the Middle East, following a meeting in Amman with King Abdullah of Jordan. Merkel  said   on Thursday, June 21: "Iran's aggressive tendencies must not only be discussed, but rather we need solutions urgently." She then said that although European countries wanted to keep the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran alive, they remain concerned about Iran’s ballistic missile programme, support for the Houthis in Yemen, and its propping up of the Syrian Regime. Merkel is right to be concerned about these things. Iran poses a threat to its own people, through egregious human rights abuses, the Middle East and the world, through its interference in other nation-states, support of terrorism, and malign missile programmes. Germany should take a strong stance against the Iranian Regime by withdrawing

IRAN-LINKED MILITIAS AND SYRIAN FORCES BECOME INDIVISIBLE IN “SHIA JIHAD”

Image
By INU Staff INU - Iran has supported Syrian President Bashar Assad mostly via proxies and allied militias. The Lebanese group Hezbollah has contributed thousands of men to fight in Syria. Foreign fighters from Afghanistan have also gone into Syria. Phillip Smyth, Soref fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, termed this the “Shia Jihad” in his report, “The Shiite Jihad and Its Regional Effects.” These groups are essential to the Assad regime’s war effort’s survival. Hezbollah units secured the regime’s control of Damascus and the surrounding areas. Iran-linked militias are necessary to Assad. Meanwhile, his enemies, primarily Israel, worry about their proliferation. Israeli politicians are concerned about Hezbollah’s increasing dominance of Lebanon. They do not want a base to be established by Iranian proxies near the Golan Heights, which is the Syrian border area that Israel has occupied since 1967. Hezbollah targets inside Syria, including supply routes a
