Countering Iran’s Threat, Strategies for Regional Stability

Image
Written by Mahmoud Hakamian Two-minute read On Sunday morning, April 14, the Iranian regime launched an unprecedented attack against Israel, escalating tensions in the Middle East. Despite military experts’ assessments that the attack failed, it underscores  Iran’s role as a focal point  of regional conflict. The October 7th attack sent shockwaves globally. Despite ample evidence implicating the Iranian regime, Western governments dismissed Tehran’s involvement, adhering to a flawed appeasement policy toward the primary state sponsor of terrorism. They disregarded explicit statements from Revolutionary Guards  (IRGC) commanders boasting  about their direct role in the attack. For decades, the Iranian Resistance has urged the international community to adopt a resolute stance against the Iranian regime’s aggression and terrorism. Despite persistent calls, the failed appeasement policy of the West allowed Tehran to escalate its belligerent activities, including financing, arming, train

Iran’s economy will continue to struggle during Biden presidency

Image
By Dr. Majid Rafizadeh Some politicians, scholars and policy analysts believe Iran’s economy might rebound after Joe Biden moves into the White House in January. The argument goes that President-elect Biden will rejoin the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, meaning funds will flow back into the treasury of the Iranian regime, just as they did in 2015. However, Iran’s situation is more complicated now and, due to several critical factors, its economy is less likely to rebound to the high levels seen after the nuclear deal was first struck. After the JCPOA was reached between the P5+1 world powers and Tehran, the Iranian leaders enjoyed a free ride in the global financial system, not just because of the nuclear deal but also because they promised the major global financial institutions that they would strengthen the country’s anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing rules. Iran pledged to implement the Financial Action Task F

Parroting Iran Regime’s Propaganda Against the MEK

Image
By Dr. Ali Safavi “ Trump’s Former Top Intel Adviser Has Become a Key Source of Disinformation ,” ( Mother Jones , November 2, 2020), amounts to nothing more than regurgitating the Iran regime’s often-debunked allegations against its main opposition. Accusing the strongest and most organized democratic opposition of Iran, the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), of being a “cult” is absurd and a signature move of the religious dictatorship ruling Iran.  For years , the regime has spread the most despicable disinformation against the MEK in order to discredit it. Yet regime officials constantly express their deep-seated fears about the increasing number of youths joining the MEK. As recently as June of this year, the regime’s Foreign Ministry  called  the MEK a “terror cult,” while at the same time the mullahs  announced  the arrest of two elite university students for supporting the organization. In addition to domestic suppression, demonizing the MEK and conducting terrorism against it abroad h

The world has a moral obligation to support the Iranian people

Image
By Dr. Majid Rafizadeh This is the first anniversary of massive pro-democracy protests that swept Iran last year. The uprising was unprecedented in the past 40 years. It engulfed almost 200 cities and, in a matter of days, 1,500 people, including teenagers, were indiscriminately and deliberately murdered by security forces. Yet the massacre is one of the most underreported and overlooked events. The West has fallen spectacularly short of its moral obligations. The regime must be held to account for the vicious November 2019 crackdown, otherwise it will most likely continue to massacre innocent Iranians who are suffering enough under a devastated economy and a major global pandemic. The 2019 uprising was extraordinary in many ways. It was a stunning display of popular rage toward the ruling theocrats. For years, many Iran apologists in the West have argued that since the regime is firmly in power and enjoys a sufficient degree of support on the streets to allow it to survive, it

Iran’s Regime Expresses Fear of Upcoming Trial of “Diplomat-Terrorist” Assadollah Assadi

Image
By Shahriar kia The mullahs’ regime expressed fear as the trial date of its incarcerated diplomat-terrorist,  Assadollah  Assadi, in Belgium approaches.  “In my meeting with Belgium’s Ambassador, I underlined that the MEK [opposition Mujahedin-e Khalq] intends to tarnish our relationship with Belgium and Europe. This case is important and urgent for Iran,” Peyman Sadat, the Director-General of Europe in Iran’s Foreign Ministry, told the official ISNA news agency on Wednesday.   Sadat, who is an official of the world’s top executioner per capita and the worst human rights violating state, complained about the “human rights” of Assadi being ignored.   “Assadollah Assadi was arrested in a highly inhumane manner. His case was one of my tasks in Brussels. My deputy and I went to see him every week, but after each visit, he was subjected to physical examination. Thus, these visits stopped.”  This is the same regime that recently executed Iran’s wrestling champion Navid Afkari after torturi

Iranian Propaganda Has Grown More Insidious in the Era of Social Media

Image
By Alejo Vidal Quadras This month, American authorities shut down at least 27 websites after determining that they were part of an increasingly sophisticated campaign of propaganda and disinformation run by the Islamic Iranian regime. In October, 92 other websites were similarly targeted by Washington after their links to Iran were exposed. Also in that month, roughly 1,600 accounts were shut down by Twitter for participating in the same campaign while falsely representing themselves as belonging to genuine American and European users. Modern digital platforms represent a new battleground for Iranian insidious narratives, but the underlying propaganda has been around practically since the inception of the theocratic regime. Among the most recently closed websites was the  American Herald Tribune . The outlet boldly described itself as a “genuinely independent online media outlet” and while much of its content was nominally fact-based in order to establish a veneer of legitimacy, its

The event commemorated the enormous bravery shown by the Iranian people during the uprising and the courageous network of “ Resistance Units ” inside Iran that continue to stand up to the regime stronger than ever before. The Resistance Units are a vast network associated directly to the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran ( PMOI/MEK ). Madam  Maryam Rajavi , President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran ( NCRI ) was the keynote speaker at the conference during which global dignitaries called on the international community to hold senior officials of the mullahs’ regime accountable for their ongoing crimes against humanity. NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi “The
