World Leaders Demand Accountability in Iran, Support for Maryam Rajavi’s 10-Point-Plan

In a joint letter, 107 former world leaders from 45 countries have come together to call for international support for Iran’s pro-democracy protests and the blacklisting of the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). The letter, addressed to world powers, comes just days after the regime executed three protesters, highlighting the urgency of the situation. 



The letter, signed by former heads of state or governments, appeals to the leaders of Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America to hold the “leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran accountable for its crimes.” 

The former world leaders express their support for the Iranian people, who passionately desire a secular and democratic republic where no individual, irrespective of their religion or birthright, enjoys unjust privileges over others. The letter underscores that the Iranian people have resolutely turned away from any kind of dictatorial rule, be it the ousted Shah or the current theocratic regime. 

While recognizing the Iranian people’s right to determine their own future, the former world leaders acknowledge the continuous and tireless efforts of the democratic coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in seeking democratic change. They express support for the Ten-Point Plan of NCRI President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, which aligns with their democratic values and emphasizes free elections, freedom of assembly and expression, abolition of the death penalty, gender equality, separation of religion and state, autonomy for Iran’s ethnicities, and a non-nuclear Iran. 

Signatories to this letter include 50 former Presidents, 47 former Prime Ministers, one former Chancellor, and nine other former Heads of State from across the globe. Notable figures, including two former Presidents of the European Commission and three Nobel Peace Prize laureates, have also lent their support. 

Among the signatories are former Prime Ministers from the UK, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Ukraine, and two former Secretaries-General of the Organization of American States (OAS). Additionally, two former Prime Ministers from Canada have added their names to the cause. 

Highlighting the crackdown on the “popular uprising in Iran,” which has resulted in the death of approximately 750 protesters and the arrest of 30,000 others, the former world leaders stress the international community’s responsibility to uphold human rights for the Iranian people. 

The letter asserts that the international community’s prolonged silence and lack of action over the years have contributed to fostering a climate of impunity within Iran. It highlights that the Iranian authorities have carried out extensive executions of protesters and political prisoners, with tens of thousands losing their lives since the 1980s. The letter specifically notes the tragic events of the summer of 1988, when over 30,000 political prisoners, mostly comprising members of the opposition MEK, were ruthlessly massacred. 

The signatories strongly condemn the Iranian regime’s interference in the Middle East and Europe, including its provision of drones to assist Russia in the war against Ukraine, as well as its terrorist attempts and cyber-attacks against Albania. 

In conclusion, the letter emphatically calls upon nations to unite in support of the Iranian people as they strive for transformative change. It urges decisive actions to be taken against the current regime, which entails blacklisting the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and ensuring that regime officials are held responsible for their egregious crimes against humanity.

Paris Conference Demands Justice for Victims of Iran’s 1988 Massacre and Accountability for Regime Officials
