Iran Faces a Growing Internal Crisis

Image
By Chuck Wald We have passed the six-month mark of the war between the United States and the Iranian regime. Whatever Tehran’s rhetoric may suggest, its theocratic dictatorship is weaker today than at any point since its establishment in the aftermath of the 1979 Revolution. As this situation continues to unfold, it is increasingly important for Western governments and the broader international community to consider the policies needed to help bring about change driven not by foreign intervention, but by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.  The country’s economy, already suffering from years of decline before the war, is now exhibiting some of its worst indicators in decades, including inflation exceeding 100 percent on key consumer goods. Predictably, these pressures have intensified factional infighting within the regime. The turmoil has been compounded by the loss of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war, February 28.  Khamenei has be...

Iran’s Armed Forces and IRGC: Beacons of Hope or Global Threats?

Image
Written by Shahriar Kia On April 18, the Iranian regime’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, spoke at a military parade during the so-called “Army Day.” In his litany of lies, Raisi praised the regime’s armed forces, which are notorious domestically for their terrorist activities. Be it the crackdown on the civilian population and protests, arresting dissidents, torturing or executing them, dispatching forces to foreign countries, and running militia networks around the Middle East, the clerical regime uses everyone that serves its flag.  “The coordination and brotherhood between the IRGC and army are exemplary. Iran’s armed forces have many capabilities. Our armed forces are the beacon of hope for the oppressed around the globe,” Raisi claimed,  according  to the state-run Eghtesad News on Tuesday.    From Tehran to Baghdad and to Damascus, the destruction and bloodbath created by the regime’s armed forces, mainly the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and its Quds...

Defiant Youths Target Karun State-security Force Headquarters in Response to Chemical Attacks on Girls’ Schools Defiant youths in Khuzestan targeted the Karun Law State-Security Force Headquarters in Southern Ahvaz (Kut Abdollah) in response to the regime’s chemical attacks on schools and poisoning of schoolgirls. Several explosions were heard in the area. The Karun State-Security Force Headquarters is responsible for controlling and repressing the deprived people of Kut Abdollah in Karun. Due to the severe economic deprivation and the presence of defiant youths among the local Arab nationals in this region, the regime employs the most oppressive elements of its security forces to suppress the people of this area. “MEK Is the Undeniable Core of Iran Revolution,” State Media Warn

Image
Written by Mansoureh Galestan Iran’s nationwide uprising enters its eighth month, laying bare the regime’s inability to suppress the people’s determination for change. Thus, the question of an alternative to the moribund ruling theocracy has been a hot topic. While foreign media has been fast busy promoting opposition figures with no specific program and history in fighting the regime, Iran’s tightly controlled state media warn about the leading role of  Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) , and its parent collation, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in the protests. The growing activities of the Iranian Resistance and its growing network of youths and activists inside Iran have put the regime on high alert. Therefore, the regime wants to clarify for its forces who is their main enemy and the real threat to the mullahs’ grip on power.  “The MEK is the core of this struggle. But the so-called ‘opposition figures’ try to ignore this fact. They walk by and whistle as i...

Iran’s Mullahs Use Ramadan to Crush Dissent

Image
By Struan Stevenson With international condemnation at their brutal crackdown on protesters during the nationwide uprising that has now continued for seven months, it might have been imagined that Iran’s mullahs would have learned some lessons in moderation. The killing last September, of the young Kurdish girl, Mahsa Amini, by the morality police, for not wearing her hijab properly, was an outrage that has led to a denunciation by Amnesty International and other human rights organizations. The shoot-to-kill strategy that has killed more than 750 protesters, and the arrest of over 30,000, has triggered an unprecedented outcry from the civilized world. But, deaf to all demonstrations, the theocratic regime has continued on its repressive path. Now, during the Nowruz (Persian New Year) holidays and the holy month of Ramadan, the police are demanding even greater powers to crush dissent. Hassan Karami, the commander of the regime’s Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) Special Units, ha...

Image
Written by Shamsi Saadati On April 12, at a  press conference held  in Rome, Italy, several renowned Italian lawmakers announced a new cross-party initiative calling for a new approach and policy on Iran. The parliamentarians called for the terrorist designation of the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).   They discussed the nationwide uprising that has advanced across Iran for almost seven months, its impact and consequences, as well as the regime’s countermeasures, such as the chain of chemical attacks against students across the country. Members of the Italian Senate were expected to participate in the discussion.  MP Elisabetta Gardini, who moderated the event, emphasized the need for the international community to show solidarity with the Iranian people, who are currently facing a difficult situation.
